Social Forms:
This module enables the students to understand the structuring of society in relation to social evolution from ancient cultures to elite globalization. It introduces Rudolf Steiner's views on current social issues and examines the concept of a tripartite ordering of society; the economy, culture and rights and how it appears in modern society.
Goethean Science:
Students examine through exploration of the principle ideas of Goethean science and through careful observation of natural and cultural phenomena – how this science is central to the development of anthroposophical spiritual science and Rudolf Steiner education. This module aims to develop a general understanding of the historical and philosophical background of Goethean science and its significance as 'a meeting of science and art'. Areas of study: Delicate Empiricism and Phenomenology; Delicate Empiricism and Phenomenology; Metamorphosis, Polarity & Intensification; The Archetypal Plant, Animal and Human Being;
Inner Development:
This is an introduction to the Anthroposophical path of inner development and the module compare this path with other spiritual teachings. It also explores the nature of the fundamental soul forces of thinking, feeling and willing and endeavours to enable students to find insights and perspectives for meeting the practical and personal demands and crises of life and work. Students work with the rhythm of observation and reflection leading from percept to concept.
In this module we ask the questions: What is the world and how do we describe it? What is our relationship to the world and how have we been shaped by it?
We ask these questions in a cultural and historical context and in relation to Rudolf Steiner's worldview on evolution. Students explore the rich life-story of the humanity, from the folk stories of the ancient tribes of the Middle East through to the multi-media phenomena of our post-modern global society, which is a fascinating and endless journey. Roman sandals, medieval Courtly Love poems, military diaries, the philosophers of the Enlightenment, Hollywood movies - all have their place in the world-book of our collective story.
The module also provides the foundation for teaching history in the Steiner/ Waldorf curriculum and includes some indications for teaching methodology.
Visual and Performing Arts: as a means to the development of both a rich inner life and a flexibility in imaginative processes leading to a balance in the life of feeling, thinking and willing together with the development of the artistic skills necessary for classroom teaching.
