This course is an introductory course and suitable for people wishing to work or working with young children in Steiner early childhood settings (kindergartens, pre schools, centre based child care, home based child care and play groups). The course is also suitable for parents of young children with an interest in Steiner early childhood education.

Course fee: $420 per term (4 terms) with a $100 non-refundable enrolment fee to accompany the enrolment application to secure a place.
Fees are to be paid to Sydney Rudolf Steiner College in advance for each term/course section. Course fees include materials, handouts and marking of assignments. The first fee payment is due before the commencement of the course.

Admission: This course has no pre-requisites. It is of advantage for the learning process if the participant is already working with children or has access to volunteer work in a Steiner early childhood setting.
Child Development: The child's journey to earth; Developmental milestones in the first seven years of life; Development of movement, speech and thinking; Social development; Development of play and imagination; Understanding development through observation of young children.
Caring for the young child : Physical and emotional wellbeing; Nutrition, food preparation; Infant care; Caring for the senses; Caring for the life forces; Rhythms in the life of young children.
An overview of the rhythms and activities in Steiner early childhood education : Domestic work; Play and the play environment; Artistic and craft activities; Movement, verse and song; story telling; festivals and birthdays.
The role of the educator: Inner preparation of the educator; Working with imitation and example; Communicating/interacting with children; Communicating with parents.
Singing and craft for self development: Singing; Toy making.

This course will extend the knowledge and abilities of participants to an advanced level. Graduates of this course will be able to receive Certification for work in Steiner Early Childhood Education.
It is of advantage for the learning process if participants are already working with children in a Steiner setting.
Completion of the EC01 - Foundation Course in Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education at Sydney Rudolf Steiner College, or equivalent.
Applicants with a background of working with young children in Steiner settings or other individual experience or qualifications may be eligible for recognition of prior learning. All applications on this basis will be considered individually on their merits by the College.
This course will be offered in the form of Intensives in 2011 in Sydney.
There will be 5 Intensives of 3 days each: Friday - Sunday. Time: 9.30am - 4 pm (Sunday to 3pm)

Students are required to complete a work placement of three weeks (15 days) in a Steiner early childhood setting. If a student is already working in such a setting, the tasks and supervision can be undertaken in the workplace.
In order to receive certification students will be required to demonstrate they have completed a minimum of 100 hours study in an Anthroposophical structured program.
Sydney Rudolf Steiner College recommends that applicants/students without a background in Anthroposophical Studies study 4 modules of the Certificate in Foundations of Rudolf Steiner Education, our Part-Time Distance course as their 100 hours. These modules are: Introduction to Anthroposophy, Life Phases, Inner Development and one of own choice. Please refer to the Distance page on this website for further information.
Course fee: $1,900 plus a $100 non-refundable enrolment fee to be paid with enrolment application to secure a place. Enrolments - minimum required 15, maximum 25.
Fees in four instalments of $475 each to be paid before the first 4 Intensives.
Additional: Practical visits - $60 per visit plus travel expenses.

Participants who have completed the course successfully will receive Certification by Sydney Rudolf Steiner College which will demonstrate to employers that in-depth studies in Steiner Early Childhood Education have been undertaken.
Essentials of Early Childhood Development and Education: This module will assist participants in deepening their understanding of child development and will include the study of essential texts by Rudolf Steiner.
Methodology of Steiner Early Childhood Education: This module will assist in learning to understand and work with a methodology derived from Steiner's insights. Areas of Study will include classroom management and the inner development of the teacher.
Child Study: This module will assist in learning to observe and interpret observations and information about a child in the light of the Anthroposophical spiritual understanding of the human being. This will include the aspects of temperament, constitutional type, school readiness and the education of the will. Students will learn how to work with a holistic picture of the individual child.
Children in the World of Today: This module will deal with issues of childhood today, such as the effects of the modern life style and modern technology on children and education. The issues of child health and nutrition and the causes of challenging behaviour in children will be investigated. In addition, ways of supporting parents in caring for and nurturing their children will be studied.
Elements of the Steiner Early Childhood Program: In this module a deepening and further practice will be provided in: Working with movement and the morning circle; Working with stories and fairy tales; Working with puppetry; Working with a developmentally appropriate music program;
Artistic development for the teacher:
This module is experiential and based on participants engaging in artistic processes which will have a transformative quality.
Areas of study: Painting, Eurythmy, Speech, Lyre Playing, Sculpture.
